Bird Watching Tours

More than over Six Hundred Seventy species of birds are found in Bhutan. Every year more species are being discovered in Bhutan and every time special surveys are going on to identify the magnitude of bird life in Bhutan. The country harbors more than 16 species of vulnerable birds. They are the Pallas's Fish Eagle, White bellied Heron, Satyr Tragopan, Grey bellied Tragopan, Ward's Trogaon, Blyth's King Fisher, Rumped Honey Guide, Purple Cochoa, Rufous Throated Wren Babbler, Red headed Parrot Bill, Chestnut breasted Partridge, Blyth's Trogon, Wood Snipe, Dark Rumped Swift, Rufous necked Hornbill, Grey crowned Prinia and the Beautiful Nuthatch all of which breed in Bhutan. Experts rate Bhutan as a bird watcher's paradise; as there are less than 800 species of birds found in all of North America.

Out of all, a total of 14 bird species recorded in Bhutan are listed as globally threatened birds. These include the White-bellied heron, the Chestnut -breasted Partridge, the Wood Snipe and the beautiful Nuthatch all of them breed in Bhutan. The country is an important wintering ground for the elegant Black Necked Crane, and other winter visitors.
